Artist's Statement

Established in a tiny bedroom in a Jersey City apartment during the summer of 20XX, Promises and Lies continues aiming to produce clothing and accessories that features art and designs that set a vibe for its audience and empathizes with its wearers. Originally inspired by music and 90s rock magazines, Promises and Lies now embodies a larger range of art methods, such as collage, photography, and different fashion styles, that are included alongside its collection of other items that features illustrations and graphic design works. Because the brand continues to grow with its audience, many of the newer products are now inspired by the insights of supportive people since the brand's inception. Small business professionals, customers, spectators, and even people that have modeled for the brand have all helped Promises and Lies grow in a number of ways. What began as a project that only offered insular works on limited number of products has now opened itself up to releasing a wider body of works motivated by the people and culture of Jersey City, New Jersey. The goal to resonate emotionally with its audience persists and hopes to continue appealing to people both in and outside of its hometown through both the online store as well as varying pop-up markets. Fashion is a world that Promises and Lies is still navigating and it has only just begun realizing the breadth of its horizons.
